The Congo rainforest people rely largely on the forests for their livelihood, they are traditional hunters and gatherers and use bow and arrows to hunt wildlife. They cleared patches of forest and plant crops such as cassava, corn and yams. They also grow cash crops for trade; such as peanuts, rice, coffee and oil palms and after a few years, they move on for another fertile area, leaving this area bare.
They also relayed largely on the Congo River forming the eastern and southern borders and is one of the most important natural resources. The local peoples have long used the river for food and transportation. |
